The Riverboat Discovery
|
The
Binkley family has operated sternwheeler riverboats in Alaska since the Gold
Rush of 1898. Captain Jim and Mary Binkley first offered riverboat tours in
Fairbanks in 1950 and the business has grown every year since. Their three sons,
Skip, Jim Jr., and Johne, are all licensed riverboat captains, and
daughter-in-law Judy heads the Discovery Trading Post gift shops. The youngest
Binkleys join the crew at age five and continue the family tradition started by
their great grandfather, Charlie Binkley. |
|
Step
into the past at Steamboat Landing, one of the finest gift stores in Alaska.
Stroll along the picturesque boardwalk beside the Chena River and enter any of
our four turn of the century shops. Discovery Trading Post offers unique Alaskan
gifts at great low prices. The Susan Butcher Dog Mushing gallery features
mementos of the Iditarod champion's lifestyle and an exclusive line of
sportswear. The Binkley and Barrington Shop offers Alaskan made products and
much more. The Pioneer Hotel is a replica of Fairbanks' first luxury hotel and
features memorable Alaskan gifts.
