Blackball
Blackball was founded in 1864 as a base for transient gold seekers,
evolving some thirty years later into a settlement for coal miners. Visitors
can wander through the quaint streets, walk to the first mine ventilation
chimneys, go gold panning or join a night possum hunt.
From here you can walk the Croesus Track, an excellent traverse from mixed
podocarp forests to sub-alpine vegetation on the Paparoa Ranges with a
superb hut offering a great overnight or luncheon spot. |
