Raglan
|
It is world renown for its black
volcanic sand and famous left hand surf break at Manu Bay . This break
attracts surfers from all over the world and has been host to many
International surfing competitions.
This coastal town has a population of 3.500 (Statistics NZ, 2004). The
winter period sees a drop off in the tourist numbers; however during the
summer period of October through to late autumn, the town is a buzz with
hype and activity.
The holiday makers and tourists flock to the coastal township, attracted by
the laid back bohemian lifestyle; it is a means of escapism from the city
and daily grind of everyday life. It has been said, once you visit Raglan,
you may find it hard to leave.
With not only a rich and colourful history, it also boasts breathtaking,
panoramic views of the Tasman Sea . A must is visiting the Harbourview Hotel
which takes pride of place on the main street,. Sit and enjoy a coffee, wine
or beer on the front terrace and admire the palm trees and backdrop of Mt
Karioi (the majestic dormant volcano). This sleeping lady dominates the
coastal town and is almost hypnotic.
