Humpridge Track
Overview
The Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track is New Zealand's newest and provides a
wide variety of scenery during the three-day/two night walking experience.
The track passes through landscapes that include coastline, the world famous
Waitutu coastal marine terraces, podocarp and beech forest, to sub-alpine
settings and spectacular sandstone outcrops. Walkers see unique wildlife which
include seals, Hector dolphins and keas.
The area is rich in history for both Maori and European cultures. Key
attractions are the recently restored Percy Burn Viaduct and the Edwin, Sandhill
and Francis Burn Viaducts

The
Track

The recommended direction for walking the track is from the Blue Cliffs
Beach car park to the Okaka Hut on the Hump Ridge, and then to the Port Craig
Village before returning to the car park at Blue Cliffs Beach. The track
takes three days with the first night spent at the Okaka Hut and the second
night at the Port Craig Village.

The recommended direction may change from time to time depending on track
and tidal conditions and management requirements.

Forty walkers are permitted to stay in each hut at any one time. Booking
is essential to guarantee hut accommodation. You may encounter guided
walking on the track.

Accommodation passes must be uplifted from the Booking Office by
5pm the day before track departure or on the morning of departure.
|
|
No camping permitted within 500 metres of the track.
