From Karangahake Reserve spectacular scenery can be experienced by following the Waitawheta River. Short easy walks lead to the Talisman Mine`s pump room, a huge underground cavern constructed to house the enormous pumping machinery needed to de-water the mine levels below the river. A further five minutes walk upstream leads to the Crown Stope, site of an old mine built across the river in some of the most picturesque scenery the river has to offer.
