Sognefjorden
|
The world’s longest fjord
adventure, the Sognefjord, lies in the heart of the Norwegian fjord country
and extends more than 200 km (120 miles) inland. The region where this deep
fjord meets the glaciers and Norway’s highest mountains is considered one of
the world's most beautiful travel destinations. |
The second longest fjord in the world extends in to the highest mountains
and the biggest glacier in Norway.
The nature is both dramatic and friendly, and the area is considered one of
the world's most beautiful travel destinations. |
In this area you will find the dramatic Nærøyfjord, the famous National
parks of Jotunheimen and Jostedalsbreen, several of the highest waterfalls
in Norway, five of Norway's oldest stave churches and idyllic fjord
communities with small picturesque village centres.
You can explore the fjord all year round, whether you come by express boat
from Bergen or are traveling on a passenger boat or a car ferry. Paddling a
kayak beneath really steep mountain sides with cascading waterfalls or
between icebergs on the turquoise water of glacier lakes is a unique way to
experience nature. You can also look at the fjord from one of the mountain
tops surrounding the fjord, for example "The snow road" - the mountain road
between Aurland and Lærdal. |
